What size goalkeeper gloves do I need?
The right glove size helps you catch more and drop less. Measure once, check the chart and you're ready for match day.
1. Measure your hand
Hold your hand flat with the fingers together. Measure from the crease where your hand meets your wrist to the tip of your middle finger, in centimetres. Measure the hand you catch best with.
2. Use the size chart
13 cm is size 4. 14 cm is size 5. 15 cm is size 6. 16 cm is size 7. 17 cm is size 8. 18 cm is size 9. 19 cm is size 10. 20 cm is size 11.
Between two sizes? Pick the bigger one if you are still growing or like room for your fingers. Pick the smaller one if you want a tight, close feel.
3. Check the fit
Your fingertips should sit about half a centimetre from the end of the glove. If they touch the end, go up a size. If there is lots of empty space, the ball can bend the fingers and slip.
4. Choose the latex for your level
Junior gloves with 2.5 mm latex are soft and forgiving. Club gloves with 3 mm latex last a season of training. Pro gloves with 4 mm contact latex give the most grip on wet and dry days but wear faster, so many keepers keep them for matches.
5. Make them last
Wet the palms a little before you play. Rinse your gloves in cool water after the game and let them dry slowly away from heaters. Store them palm to palm only when they are dry.
